Visitors Program

With its Visitors Program, SAFE invites distinguished researchers and promising postdoctoral scholars to Frankfurt. Visitors are encouraged to pursue their own research projects while engaging in academic exchange with SAFE researchers and Goethe University. The program fosters collaboration through seminars, lectures, and informal scientific discussion.

Program Details

The program is open to academic researchers whose work relates to Economics, Finance, Law, or related fields within SAFE’s  research departments.

Senior Visitors

Senior Visitors are internationally established researchers with a strong reputation who are invited directly by the research professor heading the relevant research area, in consultation with the Directors of SAFE. Their visit is primarily aimed at presenting recent research and new methodological developments to the academic community in Frankfurt.

During their stay, Senior Visitors are required to teach a PhD-level mini course consisting of nine academic hours. In addition, they are expected to contribute either a research seminar or a public lecture. Beyond these formal activities, they are encouraged to engage in discussions and exchange ideas with SAFE researchers and students. 

The preferred duration of the visit is two weeks (minimum stay: five working days).

Junior Visitors

We also warmly welcome junior researchers.

Junior Visitors are typically postdoctoral or early-career researchers. The focus of their visits is on research collaboration and academic exchange with the SAFE community. Teaching obligations do not apply; however, visitors are welcome to give a research seminar or public lecture. They are also expected to actively engage with their host and other researchers at SAFE.

Applications for Junior Visits should be submitted by email to Daniela Dimitrova and must include a CV, two letters of recommendation, a research statement outlining the purpose of the visit, and a sample of the applicant's academic work. Applications are forwarded to the relevant research professor for evaluation within the respective research area, with the final decision made by the Directors of SAFE.

The duration of Junior Visits is flexible (ranging from short-term to longer-term stays) and is agreed upon individually, depending on academic and organizational constraints.

Please note that the Visitors Program is not intended for students. Participants are required to have completed a doctoral degree or equivalent in Economics, Finance, Law or a related field.

Funding

Limited internal funding may be available on a case-by-case basis. Visitors are also encouraged to apply for external funding, with SAFE serving as the Host Institute. A selection of funding opportunities is available under SAFE as a Host Institute.
