Joachim Wuermeling
Prof. Dr. Joachim Wuermeling is a Professor at the ESMT in Berlin and an attorney at A&O Shearman in Frankfurt.
Until recently he used to be a member of the Deutsche Bundesbank’s Executive Board. His latest responsibilities covered banking supervision, controlling, accounting and organisation, information technology, data and statistics.
He sat on the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism at the ECB, on the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and on the German Financial Stability Committee. His previous positions include Member of the European Parliament, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Technology, member of the Executive Board of the German Insurance Association and Chairman of the Association of Sparda-Banken. Dr Wuermeling is a lawyer by education, holds degrees of the University of Bayreuth and the European University Institute in Florence and was a honorary professor at the Universities of Bayreuth and Potsdam.
