Horst Entorf was Professor of Econometrics at the Goethe University Frankfurt since 2007. At SAFE, he built up the Data Center and was its Program Director since the founding of the institute in 2013. In particular, he has advanced the project of a repository for financial research data, which is funded by the German Research Foundation as a "Financial Data Repository (FIF)".
Horst Entorf studied economics at the University of Bielefeld and received his doctoral degree from the University of Mannheim in 1989 on the topic of " Multisektorale Konjunkturanalyse: Theorie, Empirie und Frühindikatoren `Realer Konjunkturzyklen´". There, he also wrote his habilitation under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Heinz König on the labor market topic "Match and Mismatch: A Disaggregate View", which he completed in 1995. In 1998, Horst Entorf accepted a call to the University of Würzburg and was Professor of Econometrics, where he also taught Quantitative Economics. Between 2001 and 2007, he was Professor of Applied Econometrics at TU Darmstadt. Further stations in his academic career include positions at the Catholic University of Leuven, the Center for Research in Economics and Statistics (CREST) in Palaiseau, the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education - Economics Institute (CERGE-EI) in Prague, and the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich (Universität der Bundeswehr München).
Horst Entorf was SPES Fellow of the European Union (1990-1992) and Fellow of the German Research Foundation (DFG, 1992-1993). Since 1998, he was Research Fellow at the Leibniz Center for European Economic Research (ZEW) and since 1999 at the Institute for the Future of Labor (IZA).
His research interests included empirical econometrics, which he applied to labor economics, financial markets, business cycle analysis and the econometrics of crime. In his academic career, he has published in the Journal of Labor Economics, the European Economic Review, the Journal of Econometrics, the Scandinavian Journal of Economics, the International Journal of Forecasting and the International Review of Law and Economics, among others.
Also, Horst Entorf was a member of the Committees for Econometrics, Population Economics and Macroeconomics of the German Economic Association (Verein für Socialpolitik), a member of the Board of Reviewers for the Procope-program of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and a member of the Senate Competition Committee of the Leibniz Association.
Horst Entorf died unexpectedly on 16 February 2020 at the age of 64.
