The Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE will host a networking session at the Western Finance Association (WFA) 2023 Annual Conference to unite women in finance. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 27, at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco, where the 58th WFA Annual Meeting will be held June 25-28 and is open to all female participants at the conference. The SAFE-sponsored event is part of a WFA 2023 program and is jointly organized with the American Finance Association’s (AFA) Academic Female Finance Committee (AFFECT).

“Women are still severely underrepresented in economics and especially in finance-related research. Therefore, we want to improve the exchange for women in this academic discipline in a sustainable way, so that they can also help each other”, explains Loriana Pelizzon, Director of SAFE’s Research Department Financial Markets, who will be present at the network meeting. As part of the WFA 2023, Pelizzon says the meeting also aims to further strengthen gender equality in financial research, which SAFE is also committed to with its Equal Opportunities Concept.

The joint SAFE-AFFECT event will also feature Kai Li, professor at the University of British Columbia’s UBC Sauder School of Business and vice chair of AFFECT, who will speak about AFFECT initiatives such as AFFECT mentoring events and funding opportunities.

The WFA is a professional society for academics and practitioners with a scholarly interest in the development and application of financial research. The society's annual conference is considered one of the most important events in the field.
