With effect from 1 April 2015, Günther Gebhardt, research professor of the SAFE Policy Center and “senior professor” of accounting and auditing at Goethe University Frankfurt, has been appointed to the Technical Expert Group of the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG TEG) for a period of two years. EFRAG TEG is an independent expert group composed of up to sixteen honorary members that makes recommendations for the endorsement of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), by the European Union. Also, EFRAG TEG contributes to the content and development of IFRS through its participation in the IASB consultation process and its proactive work.
Since 1991, Günther Gebhardt has been professor at Goethe University Frankfurt. After his retirement in 2013, he was appointed a “senior professor”. He has already been a member of the EFRAG Financial Instruments Working Group since 2012. According to the current business studies ranking 2014 published by the German business daily Handelsblatt, he is one of the ten leading professor for research in the area of accounting in German speaking countries. Gebhardt is a member of the editorial boards of influential international accounting journals such as Abacus, Accounting and Business Research or the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting. Further, he is chairman of the working group on cash flow statements of the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft of Business Administration.
