The European Parliament has selected the Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE as one of ten institutes to contribute regular research reports to its ECON Monetary Dialogue. The Monetary Dialogue of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON Committee), a critical platform for discussions between members of the European Parliament and the European Central Bank’s (ECB) board members, ensures accountability and informed decision-making on issues affecting the euro area’s economic and monetary stability.

SAFE was selected through a competitive process, reflecting the institute’s position in financial research. “Contributing to the ECON Monetary Dialogue underscores the quality and relevance of our work,” says Florian Heider, Scientific Director of SAFE. “Our researchers strive to bridge the gap between academic insights and policy needs, and this recognition affirms our role in shaping the economic policy landscape in Europe.”

In Policy Letter No. 106, that also was the application essay, SAFE researchers Rainer Haselmann, Florian Heider, and Loriana Pelizzon, as well as Michael Weber from the University of Chicago highlight three key challenges for the ECB in navigating an increasingly complex economic environment. “Addressing inflation dynamics, financial stability risks, and the consequences of unconventional monetary policy will be on the ECB’s agenda in fulfilling its mandate. In the coming years, we aim to support European policymakers, especially in the European Parliament, to adopt and implement effective governance measures.”, says SAFE-Economic Governance and EMU Scrutiny Unit (EGOV) coordinator  Rainer Haselmann.

This recognition by the European Parliament underlines SAFE’s commitment to contribute high-quality financial research to address practical challenges.
