Financial History Conference: Insight from Hindsight: Useful Financial History

organized by John Turner (holder of the Endowed Chair of Financial History at Goethe University Frankfurt in 2026)

22 October 2026, 08:15 - 17:15, House of Finance, E.20, Frankfurt

Program

“The legendary investor Charlie Munger once said that “There is no better teacher than history in determining the future. There are answers worth billions of dollars in a $30 history book.” Increasingly, financial history is helping investors and policymakers make decisions. In other words, there is insight from hindsight.

This conference and policy lecture, organized by John Turner, Visiting Professor “Financial History” at Goethe University in 2026, will focus on financial history that is useful to investors, regulators, bankers, central bankers, and policymakers. The conference will contain papers from a broad range of financial history which directly speak to topics of interest to contemporary investors, bankers and policymakers.

In a Policy Lecture, Russell Napier, founder of the charitable venture The Library of Mistakes, will illustrate, from the perspective of an institutional investor, how insights from financial history can provide guidance for financial market participants and supervisors.

Attendance is free of charge but registration is required.

We are looking forward to welcoming you at our event!
