EURHISFIRM – A Comprehensive Data Infrastructure for Well-Informed Policymaking

Download the program (pdf)

We will present the design of a world-class research infrastructure of European historical firm data since the early 19th century with the aim to stimulate a lively discussion on the use and value of historical data for today’s economic, social and political developments. This very comprehensive infrastructure, connecting firm data with financial information and further socio-technological and socio-political data, will be developed by a large research team from seven European countries:

  • Paris School of Economics / LITIS - Rouen University / IRISA - INSA Rennes
  • Research Center SAFE / Goethe University Frankfurt
  • University of Antwerp
  • Erasmus University of Rotterdam / University of Amsterdam
  • Carlos III University of Madrid
  • The Queen's University of Belfast
  • Wroclaw University of Economics

Scientific evidence is a key element for the policymaking process. To respond to urgent economic and social challenges, research on European data is needed to facilitate research-based policy advice. Europe could certainly "mine" from a very rich past if the sources of information were accessible to researchers and policymakers. This project aims at designing an infrastructure to make this possible.
